Further development of practically applicable bioinformatics competencies for students, particularly in the processing and interpretation of data obtained through next-generation sequencing. The course places strong emphasis on independent work carried out under instructor supervision and guidance, as this is the most effective method for acquiring practical skills. Following an interactive, seminar-style methodological introduction, students gain insight into possible solutions to emerging problems through individually completed assignments. Building on the skills acquired in prerequisite courses, students develop proficiency in whole-genome comparisons, as well as in the application and interpretation of phylogenetic and genomic epidemiology methods. Based on prior experience with haploid genomes, they acquire the competencies necessary for the assembly and analysis of diploid genomes, transcriptomes, and metagenomes. They become capable of visualizing and presenting data and analytical results.
